The german word „Chatten" (in english „Chatti") describes an ancient germanic tribe, which settled in the region of western/northern Hessen (a federal-state in the center of germany).
Their presence in history reached out for about 800 years.
Less is known about their origin and there are just few informations about the tribe. Since the „Chatten" had no real historiography like all other germanic tribes, we only have the passages in Roman writings (for example in Tacitu's Germania).
The „Chatten" were part of several important historic events such as the famous germanic riot against the romanian legions in the year 9. They also had some disputes with the eastern tribes of ancient Thuringia.
We know for sure that the „Chatten" stood their ground against the romanian empire more than one time. And they showed their steadyness again hundreds of years later when the christian invasion begun.
During this period the famous missionary Bonifatius cut down the legendary „Donareiche" (Donar's Oak) in the chattic region.
At least he later got what he deserved (with a big „Thank you" to our frisian brothers).
The band „Timor Et Tremor" uses the term „chattic" to remember the legacy of our region. It is a geographic and symbolic sign. In this new century we feel that it's time to think about our elders marks in time.
So our statement is in tradition of „our" tribe when we claim: „Yet to arise ... and never to surrender"
